Theatre

The theatre is a very important area of the arts for The Community Arts Connection to focus on. We recognize the wealth of talent in the community, and we want to make opportunities available for those already involved in theatre as well as those who have never explored the theatre. Our goal is to provide the tools necessary for personal growth as writers, actors, directors, and designers - to experience all aspects of the theatre arts.

Through our passion for the community we also recognize that there are those in our community with differing abilities and most likely will not have an opportunity to become involved with the theatre arts. The Angels On Stage program is designed to meet just those abilities, and we are currently in the development stages to offer a similar program in the Clermont/South Lake area. Another passion we have for the community is our concern for the “at-risk” children and youth in our community. Janet Reno, the former Attorney General, stated it very eloquently when she said, “The arts … provide opportunities for youth from all backgrounds to do something positive with their talents and their time.” We are looking at a program called YouthARTS, which works with the “at-risk” youth, the juvenile courts, school districts, artists, and arts organizations. Through the evaluation of the outcomes at three test sites, YouthARTS showed that arts programs really can have an impact on youth. Not only can such programs enhance young peoples’ attitudes about themselves and their futures, but also can increase academic achievement and decrease delinquent behavior.
